Guy tried to pay me in vintage ham radios for fixing his toaster

I had this older gentleman come into my shop in Denver last Thursday with a 1970s toaster that wasn't popping up. I fixed the solenoid in about 20 minutes, charged him $40. He pulls out this beat up CB radio from his trunk and says "this is worth way more than $40, take it instead." I told him I don't take trades but he got kinda upset, so I just took the cash and gave him a discount. Has anyone else had customers try to barter with weird electronics instead of money?

Oh man that's hilarious lmao. I had a guy try to pay me with a box of vintage computer keyboards once for fixing his laptop hinge. Like no dude I can't pay my rent with a stack of dirty old keyboards from the 80s. People always think their junk is worth way more than it actually is. I get that they're attached to their stuff but come on lol. You handled it well giving him a discount though, sometimes you just gotta de-escalate without being a jerk about it.

Wait, @fiona985 got offered a box of vintage keyboards? That's actually insane. I would have been morbidly curious enough to look through them but yeah, definitely not paying rent with them either.
