My buddy in Milwaukee told me to check the fuse BEFORE the main board on a dead monitor
I had a Dell monitor that just went black, no lights, nothing. He said, 'Start with the cheap stuff, the fuse on the power board is almost always the first thing to go.' I opened it up, found the tiny glass fuse on the input side, and sure enough it was blown. A 50 cent part from my local shop fixed it in 20 minutes. I was about to order a whole new main board for $60. Anyone else have a simple fix that saved a customer a big bill?

Man, how many perfectly good monitors got thrown out because nobody checked the fifty cent fuse first? It's like the tech world's version of checking if something is plugged in, but way more satisfying when you're right. Your buddy just saved you from that special kind of regret where you buy the expensive part and then find the tiny broken one.

Right? My old TV just stopped turning on last year... spent a whole weekend looking at new ones before my dad popped the back off and found a blown capacitor. Felt so dumb but also weirdly proud when it powered right up after a five dollar fix.

Actually, capacitors are way more common than fuses in modern TVs. Still feels great to fix it yourself though.
