That time I argued for solder wick at a club meeting and got weird looks

We were at our local electronics repair club, and everyone was talking about how desoldering pumps are the best. I had to speak up because I think solder wick is way more useful for tricky jobs. Like last week, I fixed a tiny audio board where a pump would have sucked up nearby parts. People looked at me like I was crazy, lmao. Another time, wick let me clean up a mess without risking damage. It's just my view, but I stick by it for careful fixes.

Last week I had a similar situation with a crowded circuit board. A desoldering pump would have knocked off capacitors, but wick cleaned it up neatly. It's frustrating when people don't see the value in the right tool for the job.

Pressure to finish jobs fast makes people grab whatever tool is closest. That pump might seem quicker until you wreck a board and lose half a day. Real speed comes from using the neat tool, even if it feels slower at first.
