Found an old elevator inspection log from 1972 in a building basement

It showed the same traction machine had a full rebuild at 15 years, but the current one is still running after 48 with just basic upkeep. I dug it out while looking for a missing motor coupling. What's the oldest piece of gear you've seen still in daily service?

Found a 1940s Bryant breaker still feeding a lighting panel in my last apartment building. The handle felt stiff but it never tripped, which was kind of scary. Landlord refused to swap it because it "still worked".

Wow, that's terrifying. I used to think old breakers were just quirky but fine. Then my buddy, an electrician, showed me one he cut open. The spring inside was so rusty it wouldn't move. It looked "on" but would never trip during a real fault. Your landlord is playing with fire to save a few bucks. That thing is a relic, not a safety device.

Had no idea they could fail like that.
