Hot take: That old timer in Chicago taught me more about leveling than any manual

Met a guy named Mike at a 30-floor building rehab in Chicago last spring. He's been in elevators since the 70s. Watched him level a car by feel alone, no laser, no tools. Said all the new guys rely on digital stuff and forget the basics. We chatted for maybe 10 minutes while he adjusted a rail bracket. Has anyone else run into an older mechanic who just works different?

Bet he still calls levels "bubble sticks" too.

Gotta respect the commitment to the bit though. If you're gonna be wrong about something, at least be consistently wrong. I bet he also calls textures "touchy feelies" and inventory "the stuff box." Reminds me of that one guy in my old guild who insisted on calling mana "blue juice." Some people just refuse to learn the actual words and honestly it's kind of impressive.

My buddy works maintenance at this old apartment building and he's got this old timer named Frank who can literally just listen to the motor pitch and tell you exactly what floor they're on. No looking at numbers, nothing. It's like they speak a different language lol
