Just found out the Empire State Building has 73 elevators, and I'm still thinking about it

I was reading an old maintenance manual from a library in Buffalo and that number jumped out at me. That's a huge amount of gear to keep running, especially with the original ones still in use (you know, with the old relay logic). It makes our five-elevator apartment block jobs seem pretty small. Has anyone here ever worked on a building with more than 50 lifts?

My local hospital has 28 elevators and it still feels like you're always waiting. Makes you wonder how they keep a place with 73 from turning into a vertical traffic jam.
