Just realized I can fix those sticky floor selector buttons with a pencil eraser
I had this old Otis car that kept getting stuck on floor 3 and 7, tried cleaning the contacts with alcohol and everything, but a buddy from Local 4 told me to gently rub the carbon contacts with a clean pencil eraser and it worked like a charm after 15 minutes.

Ngl, I gotta disagree hard here. That pencil eraser trick sounds like a quick fix that could make things worse in the long run. Carbon contacts are delicate, and rubbing them with an eraser could leave gritty residue or scratch the surface, causing more sticking later on. Honestly, if your buttons are sticky, it's probably because of dirt or wear, not carbon buildup on the contacts. You might mask the problem for a bit, but you're not really solving the root cause. Tbh, proper cleaning with a contact cleaner or just replacing the button assembly is the smarter move if you want something reliable.

Right, I had a buddy try that eraser thing on his old Game Boy and ended up having to take the whole thing apart cause the rubber bits got stuck everywhere. Just ended up using some isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip and it was way easier. Sometimes the simple "fix" just makes more of a mess than the actual problem.

I just used rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and it fixed my sticky SNES buttons.

People get so caught up in finding a magic trick to fix things fast that they forget the basics. It's the same with anything really, from a sticky elevator button to a squeaky door hinge, everyone wants a shortcut. But nine times out of ten, the simple cleaning job you don't want to do is what actually works.
