Old timer at the shop told me to stop greasing guide rails every month
Told me I was wasting time and making the car bounce, so I tried six weeks without touching them and the ride got way smoother, anyone else been told they over-maintain things that turned out fine?

Bet your old timer was the one who overtightened everything else though.

...and that's the part that gets me, you actually followed what he said? I would've just nodded and kept greasing them anyway. I had a guy at an old shop tell me to stop checking my tire pressure every week and my front right tire blew out on the highway three months later. Sure, maybe your rails don't need it, but I can't risk that kind of surprise.
