Old timer at the supply house told me I was riding the brake too hard on leveling stops

He watched me do one landing, walked over and said 'you're wearing out the brake shoes before they hit 50,000 cycles,' so I backed off the pressure by about 15% and now the car settles smoother, anyone else get handed a tip that simple?

Tbh I'm actually shocked that a 15% adjustment made that big of a difference in how it settles. Most guys I know just crank down on the brake and never touch it again. 50,000 cycles is nothing for good brake shoes if you're not abusing them. That old timer probably saved you from swapping them out way earlier than you needed to.

Did you ever get a chance to go back and thank that old timer?

Yeah that old timer sounds like he knew his stuff. It's crazy how a small tweak like that can make such a big difference, especially when you're used to doing it the same way every time. Didn't it feel good to get that tip and see it work right away?
