Overheard a firefighter in line at the diner talking about elevator recall keys
He said their crew in Cincinnati got called to a high rise last month where the Phase I key switch was painted over and they couldn't engage it. It made me realize we might be making things too clean sometimes. I've started checking for smooth operation on every key switch I pass now, not just the electrical contacts. Has anyone else run into a key switch that was physically blocked from turning?

That painted-over switch is a scary thought.

Saw a post once where someone found a live outlet completely painted shut. Makes you wonder how many are out there like that.

Did they have to force the key or did maintenance have to strip the paint first? @daniel_martin's painted outlet story shows this is a wider problem. We really need to check the physical hardware, not just if the system is powered.
