Serious question, I used to think those new digital governor testers were just a gimmick.

I was working on a 20-year-old traction unit in a downtown office building last month and my old analog gauge was giving me weird readings. A buddy lent me his digital one, and it pinpointed a worn gear tooth in the governor head in about 10 minutes, something I would've spent hours chasing. I had to eat my words, it saved the whole day. Anyone else have a tool they were wrong about?

Honestly, it's the thermal camera for me. I thought it was just for finding hot spots in panels. Then I used one to trace a warm water line inside a finished wall, saving us from cutting three wrong holes. It changed how I look at every job now.

Wait, @the_lee, you saved cutting THREE wrong holes? That's wild, man.

That thermal camera story is a good example. Sometimes the right tool just cuts through the guesswork completely. It turns a messy job into a clean fix.
