Warning: Tried the zip tie trick on a door hanger cable and it actually fixed my call back issue

I had an elevator at a 12 story apartment building in Dayton that kept getting intermittent call backs for door reopening. After tracing it for two days, I realized the hanger cable was flapping just enough to hit the door lock bracket on fast runs. I zip tied the hanger cable to the nearest structural bracket about 3 inches back, and it's been smooth for 3 weeks now. Has anybody else tried something simple like that to stop phantom call backs without replacing the whole cable?

Did your zip tie hold up to the vibration? My buddy had a similar issue on a old Otis in a Cincinnati hospital. He used a couple of those heavy duty black zip ties to secure a loose harness away from a door lock linkage and it stopped the phantom callbacks for six months before they finally replaced the cable. That trick definitely saved him a lot of headache.

Stick with the heavy duty blacks and you'll be fine. Those cheap white ones get brittle after a few months.

Oh yeah, those heavy duty black ones hold up way better than the cheap white ones lol.
