I keep seeing people steam faces for way too long at the start of a facial

A client told me her last esthetician steamed for a full 15 minutes, which made her skin feel raw. I was taught 5 to 7 minutes max to avoid barrier damage. How long do you all usually steam for different skin types?

Five minutes max, especially for sensitive skin.

Kellyjones says five minutes max, but is that really a hard rule? I've seen good results with a bit longer on tough, clogged skin. The key is watching the client, not the clock.

Honestly, my old barber used to say the same thing about hot towels. Tbh, some faces just need a little extra time.
