I was leaving my mask on too long for years and a client's skin told me.

I always did the full 15 minutes for my clay mask, thinking more time meant better results. Last week, a regular came in with her face looking tight and red after just 10 minutes, and she said it felt 'hot and itchy' halfway through. How do you all figure out the right timing for different skin types?

Wasn't my friend's face a mess after leaving a peel on?

Yeah that's why I always set a timer. Left one on for like 20 minutes once and my skin was bright red and tight for days. Felt like a sunburn.

My esthetics teacher always said to check the mask every five minutes. I learned the hard way with a charcoal mask on my dry skin, it was like concrete after eight minutes. Now I tell clients with sensitive skin to wash it off at the first hint of tightness, even if that's only six or seven minutes in.
