Rant: That rosehip oil everyone hypes gave me cystic acne in 2 weeks
Yeah so I finally caved and tried The Ordinary's rosehip oil after like 8 clients told me it was a miracle for their hyperpigmentation. Figured it's natural, how bad could it be? Day 3 I had three deep painful bumps along my jawline. By day 10 my chin looked like a battlefield. I'm an esthetician I should know better than to buy into the hype without patch testing properly on myself. My theory is the linoleic acid content just clogs me up personally. Has anyone else had a bad reaction to a supposedly 'holy grail' natural oil that everyone swears by?

My friend from cosmetology school tried that same oil and ended up with cystic bumps so bad she had to go on antibiotics for a month. She swore her skin loved everything else until that stuff wrecked her moisture barrier completely. Did you notice any stinging or redness before the bumps showed up?

Are you kidding me? Antibiotics for a MONTH from just an oil? That's terrifying. I get why @drew55's friend would think her skin was invincible though, mine acted bulletproof forever too before everything fell apart. No stinging or redness at all for me, that's what gets me. It just showed up out of nowhere like a bomb went off under my skin. Now I'm wondering if that silence before the explosion is somehow worse than seeing it coming.

The silence before the explosion was worse for me because I spent those weeks thinking I'd finally won the genetic lottery. What kind of oil was it exactly? I'm trying to figure out if there's a pattern between certain carrier oils and this delayed reaction. Did yours leave any scars or just the bumps that went away with the antibiotics?
