Three years ago I used to just slap on basic moisturizer after extractions, but last month I finally switched to a hydrating serum routine

Went to a workshop in Phoenix back in 2021 and they pushed simple creams, but now after seeing how fast my clients heal with a hyaluronic acid layer first, I feel like I wasted so much time on old school methods has anyone else made that shift in their own facial protocols?

feeling like I wasted so much time on old school methods" - man I gotta push back on that. I've been doing extractions with just plain moisturizer for years and my clients heal just fine. The whole hyaluronic acid hype is mostly marketing honestly. I tried switching to a serum routine for like 3 months and saw more irritation and breakouts than before. Your skin barrier can get overwhelmed with too many layers of stuff. Sometimes less really is more, especially if your clients have normal skin that doesn't need all that extra goo.

My esthetician friend who specializes in acne saw way faster results when she added a hyaluronic acid serum before her moisturizer, and her clients reported less redness and peeling compared to when she just used moisturizer alone. It's not about piling on layers for no reason, it's about using the right products in the right order to actually help your skin hold onto moisture and heal. I get that less can be more for some people, but for dehydrated or damaged skin, a well-chosen serum can make a huge difference without overwhelming anything.

YES this is exactly what I needed to hear! "Too many layers of stuff" is so real. I did the whole 12-step Korean routine thing for a year and my skin was constantly angry and breaking out. Now I just use a basic cleanser and a good moisturizer and it's so much calmer. Honestly I think people forget that skin is pretty good at regulating itself if we stop piling on product after product. It's like we're so scared of doing nothing that we end up doing way too much.
