TIL that my mentor's advice about skipping toner was dead wrong

My old esthetician mentor told me toner was a waste of money for oily skin. I believed her for like 3 years and just skipped it. Last month I finally added a gentle hydrating toner to my routine and my redness dropped by half in 2 weeks. Has anyone else had a client argue with them about toners and then come back saying they were right?

Man, I had a buddy who swore off toner for years because his barber told him it was just a scam. He finally tried one his girlfriend left at his place and his skin stopped looking like a pizza. He called me all sheepish about it.

Three weeks it took him to admit it, right? I bet he was still using that crusty towel his barber recommended from 2012 too. The funniest part is that barbers always have the worst hot takes on skincare, like they're dermatologists all of a sudden. @adamthompson your buddy owes his girlfriend a nice dinner for saving his face from that pizza phase. Toner isn't magic but it sure beats looking like a greasy pepperoni slice.

Aw man, I feel for your buddy. It's rough when you think you're doing the right thing based on someone's advice who really shouldn't be giving it (like a barber, no offense to them for haircuts). I've been there myself, sticking with a terrible routine for way too long because some guy at the shop swore by it. Three weeks is actually pretty quick to admit you were wrong, I've seen guys go years before they finally give in. Your buddy owes his girlfriend more than just dinner, honestly. She basically saved him from an endless cycle of pizza face and bad skincare decisions.
