Why does nobody talk about how steamers have gotten too complicated?

I still prefer the old basic steamers over the new fancy ones.

Exactly. What are we even steaming that needs twelve settings? A wedding dress maybe, once. My old steamer had one button. It steamed everything from cotton tees to wool coats. Never failed. This feels like companies adding useless features to justify a higher price tag.

My friend Lisa bought a fancy steamer last month with a digital screen. It had like TWELVE different settings for fabrics she never even owns. She called me totally frustrated because it shut off three times while she tried to steam one dress. Her old one was just a simple tank with an on-off switch and it worked PERFECTLY for years. Now that complicated thing is collecting dust in her closet. They really do make them too complex now.

Hold on, @phoenixb34, I see your point but sometimes that complexity is actually helpful. Those many settings can protect delicate fabrics that a simple steamer might ruin. Maybe Lisa just needed more time to learn the new features, since it offers more control than her old one. It's true that gadgets can be frustrating at first, but that doesn't mean they're badly made. With a little patience, that steamer could probably handle any fabric she throws at it.
