Hit my 1,000th receipt audit at work this week and it hit me different

I do a lot of small business bookkeeping and 1,000 receipts is just a number right? But this one was from a little bakery that had been shortchanging themselves on deductions for YEARS. I found them $340 in savings and they nearly cried. Made me realize how many small wins add up over time in this job. Has anyone else had a random work milestone that made you stop and think?

Wait, did you actually sit down and show them the breakdown or did you just hand them a number? Those bakery owners are usually so buried in flour and early mornings they don't even know what they're missing. Finding $340 for someone who's probably working 60 hour weeks has got to feel way bigger than any normal bonus or review ever could. It's like being a detective but for people who actually need the help, not just crunching numbers for some faceless corporation. That's the kind of milestone that reminds you why you got into this mess in the first place.

@the_joseph Nailed it. That's the whole point right there.

Hate to push back a little, but I'm not sure it's always that cut and dried. Sometimes just handing them the number is better, saves them from getting overwhelmed with details they don't have time for. I've seen owners get so lost in the breakdown they miss the point entirely.
