I finally understood why my neighbor's lawn looks so much better than mine

For years, I just mowed my grass short every Saturday. Then I noticed he mows his on Wednesday evenings, but only cuts the top third off. I tried that for a month and the difference is wild, it's actually green and thick now. Anyone else have a simple lawn care trick that actually worked?
