Just realized my morning coffee routine was stealing an hour a week

I kept running late because I'd spend forever deciding which mug to use, then wait for the kettle, then forget the cream. Clocked it at 8 minutes a day, which is 56 minutes a week. Now I set my mug and cream out the night before and use a cheap timer kettle. Anyone else find a simple fix for a time sink they didn't even notice?

My best thinking happens during those eight quiet minutes.

What do you think makes those short quiet times so much better for ideas than a whole free afternoon? I've noticed that too, like my brain only really focuses when it knows the quiet won't last. It's like a deadline for thinking. If I have all day, my thoughts just wander and nothing gets done. But give me five minutes before I have to leave, and everything suddenly becomes clear. That pressure of a short window forces out the good stuff.

Actually find the opposite, my brain needs a long runway to warm up. Short bursts just stress me out.
