Spent $120 on those fancy subscription meal kits for three weeks straight and my grocery bill actually went up

I thought the convenience would save me time and money on food waste, but I ended up with tiny portions and still had to buy extra sides at the store. Has anyone else found these kits are more hype than help?

You mentioned the tiny portions. That's the real killer. It's not just about the cost per box. It's the hidden time tax. You get home, open the kit, and realize you need to cook rice or chop a salad anyway. So you're paying a premium but still doing half the work. I felt like a line cook assembling sides while the "main event" was two shrimp and a drizzle of sauce.

Tried switching to a local grocery delivery service instead and saved about forty bucks a month.

Ugh, I had the exact same problem! I gave up on the kits and just started planning three simple meals a week on a notepad. I buy just those ingredients plus basics, and it cut my spending way down. The kits made cooking feel more complicated, not less. Now if I want a fancy recipe I just look it up online.
