That barista on 5th street called me out for multitasking

I was in line at the coffee shop near work Tuesday morning, scrolling through emails on my phone while ordering. The barista, a younger guy with glasses, just stood there silent until I looked up. He said "you know the coffee tastes better when you actually watch me pour it." It was a dumb joke but it hit me hard because I realized I do that everywhere now. Anyone else catch themselves being half there in little moments like that?

Mild counterpoint though - that barista's joke was more about connection than the actual pour temperature. Your coffee probably tastes the same either way, but his point about being present is still a good one.

@robinf51 is right, people overthink coffee shop small talk way too much.

Keep pushing back, but does it really matter that much in the end? It's just coffee and a quick chat, not a therapy session. People are making a bigger deal out of it than it is.
