That trick with putting a wooden spoon over a boiling pot actually works?
Saw someone mention it online last night and tried it with my spaghetti water and it never bubbled over once, does anyone actually know why that works or is it just luck?

Ha! My spaghetti water used to bubble over so often I just assumed it was part of the cooking process. Guess my wooden spoon was missing out on a better career all this time.

Man, I used to think the wooden spoon thing was just a myth or some kitchen superstition. I figured you just had to watch the pot like a hawk and lower the heat. But after one too times cleaning starchy water off the burner, I threw a wooden spoon across the top of the pot out of pure frustration. It actually worked, no boil over at all. Now my pasta water stays put and my burner stays clean. Total game changer for sure.
