Update: Chose the $25 kettle over the $80 one at Target and it SUCKS
I picked the cheap electric kettle because it looked fine online but after 3 boils the plastic taste is SO strong I can't drink my tea, has anyone else dealt with that weird chemically flavor from budget kettles?

Oh man that plastic taste is the worst! I bought a really cheap toaster from the dollar store once and everything came out smelling like burnt rubber for weeks. Gave up and just used the oven instead until I got sick of that too.

The burnt rubber smell is exactly what happened with mine lol. I learned to just run it empty for like 10 minutes to burn off the factory residue and that helped a ton.

Running it empty for 10 minutes sounds like a fix but I’ve gotta disagree - I tried that with mine and it just made the whole house smell like a garage fire." @vera514 I feel your pain on the cheap stuff though, that plastic taste is basically impossible to get out.
