Found my grandma's recipe box in the attic last month

It was full of her handwritten cards, including one for her 'Tuesday Night Chili' that calls for a can of Coca-Cola, which I'd never heard her use. I made it for my family, and my dad got quiet, saying it tasted exactly like his childhood. Has anyone else found a weird ingredient in an old family recipe that actually works?

Dr Pepper in chili is actually a solid move. It adds a sweet, spicy depth that works way better than you'd expect. I mean, just use a can instead of some of the broth.
