I just wrote down my grandma's apple pie recipe for the 50th time this year
I mean, I knew people liked it, but I hit 50 requests from friends and family since January. It's the one with the lard crust and the splash of apple cider vinegar in the filling. I guess it matters because I almost lost it when she passed, and now it feels like it's really living on. Has anyone else had a recipe get passed around so much it surprised you?

That "splash of apple cider vinegar" is a total pro move. It's wild how one little secret ingredient can make a recipe feel like a living heirloom.

Totally get what @nora110 means, my grandma's chili trick is the same.

Okay but come on, it's just vinegar. People talk about it like it's some magic potion passed down for generations. It makes things a little tangy, that's it. Calling a recipe a "living heirloom" feels like a huge stretch for a single ingredient you can buy at any store. It's just cooking, not a family legacy.
