My aunt called my gravy 'too thin' at Thanksgiving last year and she was right

She said it looked like brown water on the plate. I was using a standard roux but not letting it cook long enough before adding stock. Now I let the flour and butter bubble for a full 3 minutes before whisking in the chicken broth from the bird. Made a batch last Sunday for a pot roast and it actually coated the back of a spoon. Anyone else have a relative who just tells you straight up when your food is off?

I used to think 3 minutes was overkill but yeah you're totally right.

My shower timer finally broke last week after 3 years. I was hitting 4 minutes easy before that thing chimed. Now I just leave my phone on the counter with a stopwatch running. It's a pain but my water bill dropped like 15 bucks a month. My wife still thinks I'm crazy for timing my showers though.

My brother-in-law has a similar timer setup but he did 5 minutes and his spouse still complains. It's funny how small habits like timing showers can split opinions in a house. @barbarah19 mentioning that 15 dollar drop is real though, I've seen the same thing with my own bills when I started watching the clock. Makes you wonder what other tiny changes people overlook that add up over time. Got any other hidden money savers you've stumbled onto?
