My great aunt's cookie recipe went sideways at a funeral

Was at my cousin's wake last spring in Columbus. Brought my great aunt Edna's molasses cookies like I always do. Oven was old and ran hot, didn't realize until the first batch came out black. Had to start over with 20 people waiting. Lowered temp by 25 degrees and watched them like a hawk. Second batch saved the day but I was sweating bullets. Anyone else had a recipe fail at the worst possible moment?

Burnt cookies at a wake sounds about right for a family gathering lol. Last time I tried making my grandma's pound cake for Easter Sunday I forgot the baking powder and it came out like a dense frisbee. My aunt still talks about it and brings it up every holiday like I'm the family's personal baking failure. At least your second batch saved the day, mine was a total write off and we just ate store bought pie instead.

Oh man, I once brought burnt brownies to my own birthday party.

Crack up when your own cooking betrays you like that. It's almost better when it happens at a big event because then EVERYONE remembers and you get a good story out of it. Honestly burnt brownies still taste fine if you drown them in ice cream.
