Picked up an old church cookbook from 1973 and realized all my grandma's recipes were already in there
I was flipping through a $5 spiral cookbook at a thrift store in Topeka and landed on a scalloped corn recipe that matched my grandma's word for word. Turns out she submitted it to the church fundraiser back when my mom was a kid and nobody ever told me. Anyone else ever find a family recipe hiding in a community cookbook years later?

Man, I used to roll my eyes at those old church cookbooks. Thought they were just the same casseroles and jello salads everyone's grandma made. But after finding my aunt's molasses cookie recipe in one from the 60s, I get it now. They're basically time capsules of family history hiding in plain sight.

Tried my grandma's johnny cake recipe from one of those church books last month. Had to add a splash of molasses and a little extra butter to get the texture right, but man it hit different than the box mix. Totally agree, they're way more than just old recipes - they're like little pieces of family history that actually work.

Did you try it with a pinch of cinnamon or allspice? That really brought ours to life.
