Spent $45 on a garlic press that turned out to be a total waste

My grandma always used a knife and I thought I was being fancy with this new press from a kitchen supply store near Cleveland. First time I used it, the handle snapped off trying to press two cloves, literally flew across the counter. Then I read the reviews online and found out everyone had the same issue, should have checked before I bought it. Now I'm stuck with a busted press and I'm back to mincing garlic with a knife like she did. Has anyone found a press that actually lasts more than one use?

Bought a simple OXO one at Target three years ago and it's still going.

Figured three years wasn't bad but I've been burned by OXO before... had one of their pepper mills break after a year and a half, just fell apart in my hand. So I don't trust them the way everyone else does. Guess it depends on the product line or maybe I just got a dud, but I wouldn't bet on three years being the norm.

Three years? I'm honestly shocked, @emma_dixon70. I mean, I've had OXO stuff crap out on me way faster than that, like their tongs that fell apart after six months. Maybe you got a lucky one from a good batch or something, because my experience with them has been hit or miss. Their garlic press broke on the second use, no joke. So hearing yours is still kicking after three years feels like winning the lottery in OXO terms, you know? I'd probably hold onto that thing forever if it were me
