The day my grandma's casserole recipe fell apart literally
I tried to make my grandma's famous tuna noodle casserole last Saturday and it came out as a soupy disaster. She always said to drain the cans extra but I got lazy and skipped that step, ended up with a watery mess that took 45 extra minutes to bake. The noodles turned to mush and the topping never crisped up right. Has anyone else had a family recipe go wrong just from forgetting one small detail?

Holy cow, your grandma's oven was 25 degrees off?? That's wild. I never even thought about old ovens being that different. @young.kim your grandma's recipe might have been spot on for her stove but totally messed up for yours. No wonder the casserole went sideways.

Honestly might be your oven running hot or cold. My grandma's recipes always assumed an oven temp that's 25 degrees lower than what modern ovens actually hit. The topping never browned right until I dropped my temp and upped the time by 15 mins. Your noodles probably went mushy from the extra time trying to fix the water issue. If you try again maybe split the difference and add a little extra breadcrumbs on top to soak up moisture early.
