TIL my aunt's secret to her famous meatloaf was a packet of onion soup mix and a spoonful of mustard

I was over at my aunt's house last weekend helping her prep for Easter dinner, and I finally asked her why her meatloaf always tastes better than mine. She just laughed and pulled out a box of Lipton onion soup mix and a yellow mustard bottle from the fridge. She said she adds a good spoonful of mustard to the ground beef before anything else, then mixes the soup packet in dry. I've been following my grandma's recipe for years and never thought to tweak it. Has anyone else tried something like this or got another secret ingredient they swear by?

Not gonna lie, I kinda disagree with the mustard thing. Tried it once because a friend swore by it and it gave the whole loaf this weird tang that clashed with the other flavors. I think a splash of Worcestershire sauce does way more for depth without taking over. But the onion soup mix is legit, that's been my mom's trick forever too. Guess it just depends on what you want your meatloaf to taste like, savory vs zesty.

Nah @mila_murphy21, I gotta push back a little - a tiny smear of mustard right before serving, not mixed in, keeps that tang in check and adds a nice kick without overpowering everything. Worcestershire is solid too though, it's just a different vibe.
