Why does everyone add sugar to their cornbread dressing?
My grandma's recipe from Georgia uses just cornmeal, buttermilk, and a pinch of salt, and it's the only thing my family will eat at Thanksgiving. I tried a friend's version with a quarter cup of sugar last year and it tasted like a weird, sweet cake that ruined the turkey gravy. Does anyone else think sweet dressing is just wrong?

Tried sweet dressing once and nearly threw the whole pan out.

Sweet dressing balances out salty or bitter stuff perfectly, you just need the right mix.

Oh man, I feel you... some combos just don't work. The_emery has a point about balance, but when it's off it's really off.
