Finally picked the Diamond over the Nicholson rasp after years of waffling
I've been going back and forth between these two brands for like five years you know? Last month I finally grabbed the Diamond for a full set of four shoes on a draft cross. Man the bite is just different, it took way less elbow grease to get the toe squared up. Has anyone else switched rasps and noticed a big difference in how fast you finish a foot?

It is funny how one tool change can open your eyes to the whole "hard way" thing. I feel like that applies to way more than just farrier work, like how people still peel potatoes with a paring knife when a Y-peeler cuts down time by half. @the_max brought up watching the pros handle basics differently, and that clicks because we all get stuck in our own ruts, man. You see a neighbor use a speed square instead of a tape measure on a simple cut and it makes you wonder what other small habits you are fighting. Picking the Diamond was probably the same kind of wake up call where you realize you were making things tougher than they had to be.

Man I guess I picked the wrong decade to switch, sounds like I've been doing it the hard way all along.

Man, I feel you @anthony129, that "hard way" line hit close to home because I went through the exact same thing. Switching careers is tough enough without realizing you've been fighting uphill the whole time. What helped me was going back and watching some YouTube tutorials from people who do this full-time, just to see how they handle the basic stuff differently. You'd be surprised how much time you can save by changing one or two small habits. Have you tried looking at any beginner guides that cover the newer methods? That might save you a few more headaches.
