Hot take: tungsten rasps aren't worth the extra money

I spent 6 hours last weekend trying to get a clean finish on a tricky quarter crack case with my new tungsten rasp, and it just kept grabbing and tearing the hoof wall. My old Nicholson file does a better job for half the price. Has anyone else gone back to standard steel after trying the fancy stuff?

Did I buy three different tungstens before admitting my old file works best?

First file I bought was a cheap 60 grit. Then I grabbed a "premium" brand everyone raved about. Then a super fine 120 grit for finish work. End result? My old beat up 80 grit from Ace Hardware still cuts faster and lasts longer. Stick with what works. Don't chase the hype.

Three tungsten rods later and the real lesson is just to stop listening to internet hype. Sometimes the janky old stuff wins by default because it didn't cost 40 bucks and a trip to three different stores. Congrats on saving the rest of us the trouble, I guess.
