Old timer Bill told me to stop using rasps on wet hooves, ignored him for 6 months and now I'm buying new rasps every 2 weeks.

Turns out he was right because the moisture just gums up the teeth and dulls them fast, has anyone else noticed a difference switching to dry hoof work only?

Had a buddy who thought he knew better too. Used his favorite rasp on wet winter feet for months. Teeth got so clogged he had to soak the thing in solvent overnight just to clean it. Finally switched to working dry only. Rasp lasted him like 4x longer after that. He still complains about the extra time drying feet first. But he's not buying new rasps every paycheck now.

My buddy Mike did the same thing with his farrier tools. Refused to switch from a dry foot approach, kept using that rasp on wet hooves until it was basically a smooth stick. He spent a whole weekend trying to unclog it with a wire brush and some brake cleaner. Now he's a dry-only convert too, but he'll still grumble about it every time he pulls out the towel to dry a foot.

Did the brake cleaner even do anything or was it a total waste?
