Showerthought: The debate over using a rasp before the final nail on a hot shoe
Three years ago at a clinic in Kentucky, an old-timer insisted on rasping the hoof wall after the shoe was hot-fit but before driving the last nail. He said it prevents the shoe from seating weird. Last month, a younger farrier at a show told me that's a waste of time and risks the shoe shifting. Which method do you all use?

Remember that old Kentucky clinic. I still rasp that final edge for a clean seat every single time. The extra minute gives me confidence the fit is right before I commit that last nail.

Wish I had that kind of patience with my own projects.

Confidence is nice but a shifted shoe is a lame horse. That extra minute is just extra risk.
