Spent 20 years trimming from the wrong angle before a mare kicked a bucket next to me
Realized I was always too far forward on the hoof wall when a cranky draft horse nearly sent my rasp flying across the barn. Anyone else have a bad habit that took a near-miss to finally correct?

Oh man, I feel this one so much. I spent years trimming with my shoulder all hunched over and never realized I was putting way too much pressure on the inside of the hoof until a grumpy pony dragged me halfway across the aisle. It took a bad sprain in my wrist for me to finally watch a video of myself and see how crooked I was. Now I keep my elbows closer to my body and my feet planted better. It's wild how a tiny change in stance can save your back and your tools. Glad your mare didn't connect too hard.

A pony dragged you halfway across the aisle?? That's terrifying, glad you didn't get trampled.

Friend of mine had the same thing happen with a draft cross. Big horse, wanted to go left while she wanted to go right. Got yanked clean off her feet. Landed on her back in the shavings with the hoof knife still in her hand. Lucky she didn't stab herself or the horse. She still swears by those nonslip stall mats now. Keeps her grounded when the horse decides to be a jerk.
