Switched to a new hoof knife for a tricky quarter crack job

I was working on a quarter crack on a big draft horse in Boise last Friday, and my usual knife just wasn't getting the right angle. I grabbed a new one I got from a tool sale, a Mustad 4-inch curved blade, and it cut through the old hoof wall like butter, way cleaner than I expected. Anyone else find a specific tool that just clicks for a certain problem?

My uncle still uses the same paring knife from 1972.

Wow, that knife has seen some history! @claire_gibson, I bet the old one just feels right in your hand after all that time.
