Found some vintage fabric at a flea market in Portland last Saturday

It was this wild 70s floral print on 100% cotton for like 3 bucks a yard. Anyone ever had luck working with older fabrics that might be a bit fragile?

Wait, are you saying you skipped the prewash on that couch shirt or did you actually treat it first and it still went wrong? Because I've got a similar 70s floral I've been scared to cut into and I'm trying to figure out if delicate cycle is actually enough or if I need to hand wash it in the sink.

Oh man, that's a killer deal for 3 bucks a yard! Last time I tried sewing with 70s floral I ended up with a shirt that looked like a couch from my grandma's basement. But seriously, that cotton is probably fine if it's been stored right. Just wash it on delicate in cold water with a gentle detergent before you cut into it. I've had luck using a stabilizer like interfacing on the fragile bits to keep them from shredding while sewing. Worst case scenario you turn it into a throw pillow and call it "vintage decor.

Man that couch shirt thing hits close to home, I've definitely been there too. It's rough when you put all that work in and it just looks... off somehow.
