Heard a tailor say "fabric grain is the backbone of a garment" and it stuck with me
I was getting a hem fixed at a shop downtown and the tailor mentioned how ignoring grain lines ruins the drape. They showed me how diagonal cuts on a cotton twill panel can warp the whole shape. Has anyone else seen big design mistakes from not matching the grain right?

Isn't that basically the same reason why crooked picture frames bug the hell out of you?

@daniel_martin yeah man crooked frames drive me nuts too, it's like my brain can't relax until it's straight.

Guarantee I've spent way too much time adjusting a painting that was maybe 2 degrees off, only to realize the whole wall was slightly crooked anyway. But once I get it straight, I just stand there staring at it like I've accomplished something huge, even though nobody else would even notice. My wife walks in and I'm like "look, I fixed it" and she just rolls her eyes. It's a curse, really. Maybe it's just me but I think my brain has a built-in leveling app that activates at the worst times.
