I keep seeing designers in Seattle use the same 3-inch inseam on shorts for every body type, and it just looks wrong on half the people.

On one side, you have the 'it's the current style, so stick to it' camp, but on the other, shouldn't the design actually flatter the wearer's proportions first, or are we just making clothes for mannequins now?

But the real problem is they're using one pattern for all sizes, not just the inseam length.

You are so right, @jennifer_jenkins. It is not just about length. Using one pattern for all sizes means the whole shape is wrong. A curvy size 16 gets a boxy waistband made for a straight size 6. The back pockets end up in a weird spot on bigger hips. It is pure laziness from these brands.

Tell me about it. Saw a pair last week where the pockets were practically on the side seam. It's not grading, it's just blowing up a small photo and calling it a day. They don't care how it actually fits a body.
