Serious question, when did everyone stop making clothes with real pockets?

Last week I found a pair of jeans I bought in Chicago three years ago, and the front pockets were deep enough for my whole phone. My new ones from last month barely fit a single key. What's a good design trick to add hidden but usable pockets to a slim-fit dress pattern?

Serious question? Try buying men's pants.

The real issue is how men's pants are sized by waist and length, but that length is just the inseam. It completely ignores where the waistband actually sits on your body, which changes with every style. So you can have two pairs labeled 34x32, and one sits at your hips while the other goes up to your actual waist. You're basically guessing on the fit every single time.

Check @julia_anderson's idea, but men's pants fit weird too.

Absolutely, it's a real problem. Found some old cargo shorts that could hold a small toolbox, but my new chinos barely fit a wallet. The fabric just gets used for style over function now.
