Had a client in the Heights insist on a 6-foot cedar fence right on the property line, but the neighbor's sprinkler system was buried 8 inches in.

Started digging the first post hole and hit PVC about a foot down. Client said to just cut it and cap it, but I shut the job down for the day. Called the neighbor, who had no idea the lines ran that far out. Ended up having to get a utility locate, which showed the whole run. We shifted the fence line in by 6 inches on my client's side, which meant redoing the whole layout. Added a full day to the job, but better than flooding their yard. How do you guys handle unexpected underground stuff when a client just wants you to push through?

Ugh, been there! I always tell clients upfront that hitting something means we stop and figure it out. Pushing through just makes a small problem into a huge, expensive mess.

Shut it down" is the only right call there.

Spotting a bigger rush-to-ruin trend lately.
