Had a tricky corner post job in a hilly backyard last month

The ground sloped about 8 inches over 4 feet, and my usual method wasn't cutting it. I ended up using a water level to mark the post heights before I even started digging. Set the first post, then used the level to transfer the exact height to the second one, adjusting the hole depth accordingly. It saved me a ton of time trying to fix things after the concrete set. What's your go-to method for setting posts on uneven ground?

Wait, you only had an 8 inch slope over 4 feet? That's practically flat where I work. I'm honestly shocked you needed a water level for that. Most of my jobs have slopes measured in feet, not inches. For a gentle grade like that, I usually just use a long level and a story pole, it's way faster. Your method sounds solid, but way overkill for that little bit of slope.

What's the steepest slope you've ever worked on?
