Swapped to 6-foot posts on my last job and saw a huge difference
I've been using 4-foot posts for years on residential fences, but last month I tried 6-foot posts on a backyard project in Austin. The extra 2 feet made the whole fence feel way more solid, especially with the wind we get out here. Took a bit longer to dig the holes deeper, but the client actually noticed and said it looked 'sturdy.' Has anyone else tried jumping up a size on posts and seen better results?

That extra two feet really locks things in place. I did the same on a fence a couple years back and it never budged through some bad storms we had.

My buddy tried the same 6-foot posts and his fence actually survived that big storm we had last spring.

Wondered if the extra depth messed with any drainage or pipe lines you had to watch for.
