Wasted $300 on a post hole digger attachment that didn't fit my skid steer
Bought a fancy auger bit for rocky soil and the universal adapter was a quarter inch off, so now I'm stuck renting one from Home Depot again tomorrow, has anyone else dealt with this adapter sizing nightmare?

Holy cow, I gotta disagree with you on this one. Those universal adapters are literally the same standard size across every brand I've ever used, so if yours was off, either you bought some knockoff junk or your skid steer has a weird nonstandard mount. $300 is honestly a steal for a good rock auger so you probably just got a defective one, not a sizing conspiracy. Calibrating the fit takes ten minutes with a file and some grease, come on.

Tbh you nailed it. Had the same issue once, filed it down, worked perfect.

Came around to this view too actually. Used to be on susan_wright34's side thinking all augers were the same but after swapping out three different brand adapters on a job last month I saw exactly what you mean. Had a Vermeer mount that just wouldnt seat right on a Danuser bit no matter what I did. Filed down the corner just a hair and it locked in perfect. Sometimes the tolerances are just tight enough to cause headaches even with quality parts.
