My $3000 'emergency fund' lasted exactly 47 minutes last Tuesday

I keep a metal box with cash for real emergencies - no bank access needed. Last week the water heater gave out at 6am, and by 6:47am I had handed over $2,850 to a plumber and bought a new unit. Has anyone else had an emergency fund evaporate faster than they ever expected?

Did you at least get a warranty on the new water heater so it can fail again right after the warranty runs out? That 47 minute record has to be some kind of speedrun for blowing through cash.

@ray_miller84 47 minutes sounds fast but really that's just life hitting you with the annual home tax.
