I think skipping the home inspection was the right call for us in Austin
We were under contract on a 1950s bungalow and the seller gave us 24 hours to decide. The inspection would have cost $500 and likely flagged minor stuff we could fix ourselves. Anyone else feel like the inspection panic is overblown for solid houses?

Wait, they only gave you a single day to decide on a house from the 1950s? That alone would have sent me running. The inspection isn't just about minor stuff you can fix, it's about finding the major problems you can't see. Saving five hundred bucks seems like a wild gamble when you're about to spend hundreds of thousands.

That rush to decide is everywhere now, and @ivanross is right that skipping the check feels like a huge gamble on your biggest buy.

Seriously, my buddy skipped an inspection to win a bidding war. They found faulty wiring and a cracked foundation two months in. That gamble cost them way more than an inspection ever would.
